Facebook Messenger Mafia (x4)

The Summer Festival Community loves mafia. In order to build cohesion and have some sense of community with the camp team, we adapted to the format to be played over messengers in slower than real-time. One day of real-life = 1 day or night in the mafia game.

Here is the current working version of the rules:

Online Mafia Rules

  1. The first order of business, please check the town roster and make sure you are on the roles, your name is spelled right, and you like your picture. If something needs to be changed send me a private message. https://excitedhippo.com/mafia/
  1. We’ll be sending out private chats for you and your team if you’ve received a role (Mafia, Doctors, Cops)
    1. Townsfolk will each be put into pairs (like Masons) so they have another person to talk to.
    2. Because we are giving townsfolk exit buddies, please try to avoid private chats outside of the designated game chats (if you have something to share, share it with the group, it will help the game).
  1. In Atlantis, there were two warring groups of the mafia. Each group is three people. So six total mafia. 
  1. There are two teams of doctors (Sacred Heart + Grey Sloan Memorial). Each team has 2 doctors and 1 med student. The med student cannot save anyone unless both doctors on their team have been killed. 
  1. There are 2 different precincts of cops, Brooklyn 98 and Brooklyn 99. Each precinct has a team of 2 cops. 
  1. Each round – each individual mafia gets one attempted hit, each individual doctor gets one attempted save (the med students only get a save if they’re the last one standing on their team), each individual cop gets one investigation. Each group gets this message: 
  1. You are one of the groups of mafia. Don’t tell anyone you are mafia. Each mafia in your group gets to make an attempt at a hit from someone on the roster who is still alive. The deadline is 11:59pm tonight. When you’ve selected your 3 hits please type: FINAL: Person 1’s name, Person 2’s name, Etc. You get 3 hits. (and tag me) You do not need to wait till midnight. You get 3 hits tonight.
  1. You are the one of the groups of Doctors. Don’t tell anyone you are doctors. Each doctor in your group gets to make an attempt to save someone on the roster who is still alive. Med students only get a save if they are the last one standing on your team. The deadline is 11:59 pm tonight. When you’ve selected your 2 saves please type: FINAL: Person 1’s name, Person 2’s name. (and tag me) You get 2 saves tonight.
  1. You are one of the two teams of cops. Don’t tell anyone you are cops. Each cop in your group gets to make one investigation from someone on the roster who is still alive. The deadline is 11:59 pm tonight. When you’ve selected your 2 investigations please type FINAL: Person 1’s name, Person 2’s name. (and tag me) You get 2 investigations tonight.
  1. If you die, your team goes down 1 power. However, you can still be a part of their chats as a ghost.
  1. There may be other special roles introduced at the beginning, or during the game. Some player’s ability to communicate may be hindered. Special packages and a game of chance may be reintroduced. Special packages may only be sent to someone while they are in the hospital. Stay on your toes, and remember that nothing is off the table.
  1. When you die, you do get an RIP Gif. 
    1. You will not be muted (unless there is an issue for some reason)
    2. You may still participate as a ghost following the ghost guidelines.

Odd Days-

Night – 10:00 am 11:00 pm Real-time – Mafia, Doctors, Cops, Ghost team do their special action

Even Days – 

10am – 8pm Real-time Nominations // Defensives Town Chatter // Dead get a gif

8pm – 11PM- Town Can Vote

  1. For someone to be formally accused. They must be accused, seconded and thirded. You may personally only accuse one person each day.The first six accusations to get a second and third will be the ones used in the town vote. The accused may make a 1 min video or audio explaining their innocence and uploading it to the Facebook town chat. Each person can nominate only one person per round and only second and third three times each. 
  1. We will be opening town voting using google polls at 8pm.
  1. Townsfolk who are killed or voted out of town are assigned a new chat. Either Ghosts #1 or Ghosts #2. Each round by midnight each ghost team gets 2 guesses. You win the ghost challenge if you can guess all 6 mafia before the other ghost team. 
    1. You are now a ghost. Each round by midnight each ghost team gets 2 guesses please type FINAL: Person 1’s name, Person 2’s name. You win the ghost challenge if you can guess all 6 mafia before the other ghost team. 
    2. you are now a ghost. You can still participate and help your team in this chat. You may not give any information obtained in your ghost chat back to your team chat. You may only contribute to jokes in the town chat. Please no gameplay talk for you in the town chat.
